WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

It’s happened. The finale has arrived and now our watch has ended. Game of Thrones aired its final episode which was promised to be bittersweet. In truth though, it’s a happy ending. For the entire Starks family at least. And a lot of fans are left disappointed.

To explain why, here is a brief summary of some of the things that went wrong with the final season:

# 1 ARMIES INSISTING ON BEING OUTSIDE WALLS

D&D have proven that they are not knowledgeable on battle strategies or even cared to learn. The battle at Winterfell and King’s Landing were proof of that. Setting aside the fact that they had the Dothraki charge blindlessly into the night without the proper weapons, why were their armies even outside the walls?

Why were the Golden Company especially outside King’s Landing? They were very much protected inside because they had scorpions lined up on top of the wall. Their enemies had no siege weapons and could have been wiped out with archers. None of their battle strategies made any sense.

# 2 SCOUTS NO LONGER PUT TO USE

We’re supposed to believe that Daenarys and her entire group of advisors went to Dragonstone without thinking of sending a scout just in case their enemies decided to take hold of the island? Oh right, as D&D mentioned, she kinda forgot about Euron’s fleet.

# 3 ARMIES KEEP RESPAWNING

After seeing the massacre at Winterfell wherein we were shown that only a handful of the main characters and soldiers were left fighting the undead, we are then expected to believe only half of their entire armies died?

# 4 THE SPYMASTER ISN’T SO SUBTLE

Varys has outlived several monarchs and managed to survive this long because he is cunning, intelligent, and made sure to always be a step ahead with knowledge. Yet, he openly conspired against Daenarys. He made his position known to Tyrion and spoke to Jon in an open area where he could be heard by the others. This is the legendary spymaster?

# 5 TYRION THE SMART LANNISTER IS NO LONGER SMART

A character we have all come to love for being the voice of reason and logic is no more. Instead, we’re left with a shadow of Tyrion Lannister. His plans have led to the death of Olenna Tyrell and the loss of many other allies.

# 6 ONLY WINTERFELL GAINED INDEPENDENCE

Sansa, being the conniving Cersei 2.0 that she has become, refused to be part of the 7 kingdoms even when Bran became king. Her reasoning? The Northerners have fought too much already (it’s like she forgot how much the Unsullied sacrificed to protect the retreat of the Northerners). Bran agreed and Sansa has become the Queen of the North.

But how come none of the other houses asked for independence? Yara has been declared Queen of the Iron Islands and Daenarys has previously given her Independence. Why wouldn’t she ask for it then? Edmure Tully apparently wanted to be King as well, so why didn’t he? What, only Starks are allowed to rule now?

# 7 THE DOTHRAKI HORDE ARE SILENT

When Daenarys died, who was left to speak their language? What stopped them from going on a rampage on the villages? I guess being resurrected from the dead has made them change their ways.

# 8 BRIENNE IS REDUCED TO A HEARTBROKEN GAL

They knighted Brienne, a strong and independent woman who fought for the living, then reduced her to a heartbroken gal who got deflowered by a one-handed man who was still into incest.

# 9 BRONN BECAME MASTER OF COIN

It’s difficult to think of a worse master of coin than Bronn. He’s a sellsword who really has no background for the position or shown intelligence to hold the position well. What made him trustworthy when he was willing to kill his friends for money? Why was he given High Garden? Where’s he been anyway?

# 10 THEY DIDN’T KILL JON

While it may be poetic to have Drogon melt down the Iron Throne which was forced by his ancestor, Balerion, him leaving Jon alive does not make sense. Just because he’s Targaryan it doesn’t mean a dragon can’t and won’t kill him. Plenty of Targaryans have died during the Dance of the Dragons. Besides, he has shown extreme protectiveness over his mother. He’s screamed at a slave Master who stood up and threatened her. He tore the men who charged at her. Suddenly, he lets her murderer live?

And the Unsullied, these fiercely loyal soldiers let the murderer live and be taken prisoner instead? Greyworm was seen executing the remaining Lannister soldiers. Why wouldn’t he kill Jon on the spot?

# 11 BRAN BECAME KING

We get it, he’s the three eyed raven. But what use has he really been besides bait? He wasn’t even shown in the entire season 5. Meera has done more to save him on his quest to become the three eyed raven. And if you think about it, he knew about Daenarys’ fate and let her kill thousands then strolled in to be King.

Ultimately, they used Daenerys to defeat the Night King and reclaim the Seven Kingdoms. They destroyed her character to boost Jon Snow and the Starks. Now, they’re free to ride on their high horses while enjoying the fruits of someone else’s work.

IN CONCLUSION

Season 8 has been frustrating for a majority of the fans. The cinematography, music, acting, production and everything else has been brilliant. The Writing however is an entirely different matter.  As fans who have invested money, time, and more, we deserve better. Unfortunately, D&D have failed us and may continue to do so by ruining another beloved franchise, Star Wars.
