WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
It’s happened. The finale has arrived and now our watch has ended. Game of Thrones aired its final episode which was promised to be bittersweet. In truth though, it’s a happy ending. For the entire Starks family at least. And a lot of fans are left disappointed.
To explain why, here is a brief summary of some of the things that went wrong with the final season:
# 1 ARMIES INSISTING ON BEING OUTSIDE WALLS
Why were the Golden Company especially outside King’s Landing? They were very much protected inside because they had scorpions lined up on top of the wall. Their enemies had no siege weapons and could have been wiped out with archers. None of their battle strategies made any sense.
# 2 SCOUTS NO LONGER PUT TO USE
# 3 ARMIES KEEP RESPAWNING
# 4 THE SPYMASTER ISN’T SO SUBTLE
# 5 TYRION THE SMART LANNISTER IS NO LONGER SMART
# 6 ONLY WINTERFELL GAINED INDEPENDENCE
But how come none of the other houses asked for independence? Yara has been declared Queen of the Iron Islands and Daenarys has previously given her Independence. Why wouldn’t she ask for it then? Edmure Tully apparently wanted to be King as well, so why didn’t he? What, only Starks are allowed to rule now?
# 7 THE DOTHRAKI HORDE ARE SILENT
# 8 BRIENNE IS REDUCED TO A HEARTBROKEN GAL
# 9 BRONN BECAME MASTER OF COIN
# 10 THEY DIDN’T KILL JON
And the Unsullied, these fiercely loyal soldiers let the murderer live and be taken prisoner instead? Greyworm was seen executing the remaining Lannister soldiers. Why wouldn’t he kill Jon on the spot?
# 11 BRAN BECAME KING
Ultimately, they used Daenerys to defeat the Night King and reclaim the Seven Kingdoms. They destroyed her character to boost Jon Snow and the Starks. Now, they’re free to ride on their high horses while enjoying the fruits of someone else’s work.
IN CONCLUSION
Season 8 has been frustrating for a majority of the fans. The cinematography, music, acting, production and everything else has been brilliant. The Writing however is an entirely different matter. As fans who have invested money, time, and more, we deserve better. Unfortunately, D&D have failed us and may continue to do so by ruining another beloved franchise, Star Wars.
